Enjoy a weekend of learning the skills required in reined cow horse instructed by Australian Reined Cow Horse President and the 2023 Open Hackamore Classic Champion Aaron Scobie.

The clinic suits riders wanting to compete and learn more about reined cow horse events. It will consist of 12 participants split into two groups. Both horses and riders should be comfortable in all three gaits, as a fair amount of cantering is required.

On the first morning, we start at 8 am. Aaron will teach the primary body control and exercises, preparing the horses for the reined and cow work. He then moves on to each reining manoeuvre and how they relate to working cattle. Saturday afternoon, we move on to working cattle and start boxing the cattle at one end of the arena.

On Sunday morning, the participants will practice the individual parts of the cow run:

  • Boxing.
  • Going down the fence and circling.
  • Aiming to get everyone through a couple of full runs in the afternoon.

For those riders that have done previous cow horse clinics, you can expect to proceed through the first day quickly. However, if you and your horse are new to the sport, you will be given the time required to get you both comfortable, and you can stay at the level you are most comfortable with.
